Ömer Faruk Aşık (born July 4, 1986 in Bursa ) is a former Turkish basketball player who was last active for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA . Aşik began his basketball career in 2005/06 in the Turkish Basketball League at Fenerbahçe Ülkerspor . In the 2008 NBA Draft , he was selected in 36th place by the Portland Trail Blazers and transferred to the Chicago Bulls on the same day.

NBA career

2010/2011 season

In the 2010/11 season , Aşik reached the final series of the Eastern Conference with the Bulls . There they were eliminated 1: 4 against the Miami Heat .

2011/12 season

In the 2011/12 season he was eliminated with the Bulls early in the first round against the Philadelphia 76ers 2-4 .

2012/13 season

On July 24, 2012, Aşik joined the Houston Rockets as a restricted free agent after the Bulls decided not to call with the Rockets' offer. With 23 rebounds in a guest appearance with the Brooklyn Nets on April 1, 2014, he reached a new career record. The same he succeeded in the previous season for baskets with 22 points on January 18, 2013 in a loss at the Indiana Pacers and on April 1, 2013 in a win against the Orlando Magic . The 2012/13 season was Aşik's best; as a starter he scored 10.1 points and 11.7 rebounds on average.

Since 2013

Aşik was not satisfied with his role as a bench player after signing Dwight Howard . After a season as a backup behind Howard, the Rockets transferred him to the New Orleans Pelicans in the summer of 2014 , where he was again given a regular place on the starting line-up. After the rise of superstar Anthony Davis and the signing of DeMarcus Cousins , Aşik's playing time in New Orleans fell rapidly.

In February 2018, the Pelicans transferred him back to the Chicago Bulls along with a first-round pick , who in return sent Forward Nikola Mirotic to New Orleans, among others . The Bulls broke Aşik's contract shortly after the start of the season due to an injury.
