Alexis Ajinça (born May 6, 1988 in Saint-Étienne , France ) is a French basketball player who was most recently under contract with the French first division club ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne .
Career
Ajinça began his career with Élan Béarnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez before moving to Hyères-Toulon Var Basket in 2007 . In 2008 he was selected 20th in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Bobcats . In Charlotte he received little playing time and was often sent to the training teams , Sioux Falls Skyforce and Maine Red Claws , in the D-League . The 2010-11 season he played with both the Dallas Mavericks and the Toronto Raptors . He returned to France in the summer of 2011 and played again for Hyères-Toulon and Strasbourg IG . With the Alsatians, Ajinça reached the final series of the French championship in 2013. On December 20 of the same year, he returned to the NBA and signed with the New Orleans Pelicans . He achieved the highest point average of his time in New Orleans in the 2014/15 season when he scored 6.5 points per game.
He missed the start of the 2017/18 game year because of knee problems that made an operation necessary in December 2017. Due to the intervention, Ajinça missed the entire game year. In the run-up to the 2018/19 season, he was transferred from New Orleans to the Los Angeles Clippers , but immediately removed from the squad there in mid-October 2018. At the beginning of 2019 he signed a contract with the French first division club ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne . At the beginning of March 2019, Ajinca and ASVEL split again after the player and coach Zvezdan Mitrovic clashed.
National team
Ajinça played for the French national team from 2009 . With this he won the European Basketball Championship in Slovenia in 2013 .
