Club career

Nikola Peković began his career with the youth teams of Budućnost Podgorica , where he played until 2003. He got his first professional contract with the Serbian club Atlas Belgrade, where he stayed for two seasons. In 2005, Peković moved to the traditional club Partizan Belgrade , where he was able to win the Serbian Cup twice in addition to three championships in the next few years and was used for the first time in the ULEB Euroleague . After Peković had his big breakthrough there in the 2007/2008 season and made it to the quarter-finals of the competition with Partizan, he moved to Panathinaikos Athens in Greece in 2008 . With Panathinaikos Athens, Peković won the Greek Cup, the championship and the ULEB Euroleague in 2009 and was selected into the starting five of the tournament. That same summer he was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 31st place in the NBA Drafts . In June 2010 he was awarded a 3-year contract worth $ 13 million. In his first season he was not a regular player, but scored an average of 5.5 basket points and 3 rebounds . During the lockout in the 2011/12 NBA season , he played for his home club Partizan Belgrade from August 2011 until the end of the year. After his return to Minnesota, he was a regular for the injured center Darko Miličić . He finished the season with 13.9 points and 7.4 rebounds with an average playing time of just under 27 minutes. At the end of the season, he finished third in the Most Improved Player election . In August 2013 he signed a contract extension of 5 years with his previous club, which is to be remunerated with 60 million dollars. In January 2014, the season ended prematurely for him due to an ankle injury. In 54 games of the season he achieved his personal record of 17.5 basket points and 8.7 rebounds per game. In the next two years, Peković only played 43 games this season due to recurring problems with his right leg. After it was ensured that Peković would not return to the field and that he had also suspended the 2016-17 season, he was released by the Timberwolves in the summer of 2017.
