BAA draft 1947

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1947 BAA draft was the first draft of the BAA , which was later merged with the NBL to form the NBA . Therefore, the draft is also considered the first draft of the NBA. On July 1, 1947 , the Draft was carried out in Detroit . The college players were distributed to 10 teams. The players were distributed to the teams in the reverse order of the previous season's final scores and the new team from Baltimore received the 10th pick.

The first pick , Clifton McNeely , didn't play in the NBA but instead coached a high school in Texas . Walt Dropo , the fourth pick, didn't play in the BAA either, but played in the MLB for 13 seasons afterwards . Three players from that year, Harry Gallatin , Andy Phillip and Jim Pollard , were inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame .
