Andy Phillip
Andrew Michael Phillip (born March 7, 1922 in Granite City , Illinois , † April 29, 2001 in Rancho Mirage , California ) was an American basketball player . Between 1947 and 1958 he played in the NBA for the teams of the Chicago Stags , Philadelphia Warriors , Fort Wayne Pistons and Boston Celtics . Phillip was 1.88 m tall and played in the position of point guard . He applies alongside Bob Cousy and Dick McGuire as one of the best playmakers of the 1950s.
Philipp was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1961 for his career achievements as a player . He was a five-time All-Star in the BAA and NBA, won the NBA title with the Boston Celtics in 1957 and went down in NBA history as the first passer with more than 500 assists in just one season (1952).
