2010 NBA Draft
The 2010 NBA Draft was conducted on June 24, 2010 at Madison Square Garden in New York City , New York . In two rounds, the 30 NBA teams were able to secure the rights to a total of 60 young players.
The final draft order for positions 1 to 14 was determined on May 19, 2010 by the draft lottery . The 14 teams that did not qualify for the playoffs in the 2009/10 season took part in this weighted lottery and were placed in the reverse order of the regular season table. The draw was won by the Washington Wizards , followed by the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Nets .
All players who wanted to register for the draft had to be born before December 31, 1991 regardless of their high school diploma. If they were not an “international player”, they were also not allowed to register for at least a year after graduating from high school .
The Wizards chose John Wall of the Kentucky Wildcats first. Four other players from this university were selected in the first round, a new record in the history of NBA drafts. With Tibor Pleiß , a German player was selected for the first time since 2002 . However, it was only for the second time since 1995 that there was no European among the first 14 picks, i.e. those of the teams participating in the lottery .
