Luke Robert Babbitt (born June 20, 1989 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is an American basketball player who was last active for the Miami Heat in the NBA .

Career

Babbitt initially played two years for the University of Nevada, Reno , before he signed up for the 2010 NBA draft and was selected in 16th place by the Minnesota Timberwolves . However, the Wolves exchanged the rights to Babbitt with the rights to Martell Webster , which the Portland Trail Blazers had acquired, on draft day . Babitt therefore spent the first three professional years with the Blazers, but could not play in the rotation and was also ordered into the D-League to gain match practice.

In 2013 he moved to Russia to BK Nizhny Novgorod . However, he broke the contract with Novgorod after a few months and was signed a short time later by the New Orleans Pelicans . There he convinced in the remaining games of the season, so his contract was extended in summer 2015. Babbitt closed the 2015/16 season with a career record of 7.0 points per game. Nevertheless, the Pelicans transferred Babbitt to the Miami Heat in the summer of 2016 .
