1983 NBA Draft
The 1983 NBA Draft was conducted in New York City on June 28, 1983 . There were ten rounds in total. The first round consisted of 24 picks. The Cleveland Cavaliers received another election as compensation for the draft picks traded against Ted Stepien .
In first position, Ralph Sampson was elected by the Houston Rockets .
From this year, Clyde Drexler , who also played for the Dream Team during the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , was inducted into the Hall of Fame . Doc Rivers and Byron Scott started successful coaching careers and were each once Coach of the Year in the NBA.
