John MacBeth Paxson (born September 29, 1960 in Dayton , Ohio , United States ) is a retired American basketball player in the NBA . The 1.88 meter tall Paxson played the position of point guard and was part of the Chicago Bulls team that won three NBA titles in a row between 1991 and 1993 (Threepeat). He is currently the general manager of this basketball club.

Player career

Paxson was drawn 19th in the 1983 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs , where he was transferred to the Chicago Bulls by superstar Michael Jordan after two disappointing years . After another year as a bench press, he established himself as the starting point guard in the 1986-7 season, who now came to 11 points and 6 assists per game. The tall for a point guard Paxson was known for his defense work and his high hit rate during this time, as he sank almost half of his throws and over a third of his three-point throws. After the Bulls had failed again and again at the Detroit Pistons under coach Doug Collins , Phil Jackson took over the helm in 1989-90. Together with Jackson, Jordan, clearer Horace Grant and all-rounder Scottie Pippen , Paxson finally became champions with the Bulls in 1991 at the age of 31. Paxson contributed 7 points and 3 templates per game. In 1992 the Bulls repeated their masterpiece, and Paxson was again a regular. At the Hattrick Championship in 1993, Paxson had his big moment in the sixth and final game of the final, when he sank a three-point throw 3.9 seconds before the end when he was 96 to 98 and thus scored the all-important basket. In 1994 he resigned at the age of 33.

Management career

After a few years outside the NBA, Paxson became general manager of his old club, the Chicago Bulls, in 2003. He led the ailing team out of the league's basement and back into the playoffs through several clever transfers. Draft obligations and transfers from service providers such as Kirk Hinrich , Ben Gordon , Luol Deng , Chris Duhon or Andrés Nocioni are on his account .

Private life

Paxson is the son of Jim Paxson senior and brother of Jim Paxson junior , who both played in the NBA.
