Horace Junior Grant (born July 4, 1965 in Augusta , Georgia ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 1987 to 2004 for the Chicago Bulls , Orlando Magic , Seattle SuperSonics and Los Angeles Lakers . Grant won with the Bulls three times (1991-1993) and with the Lakers once (2001) the NBA championship.
Career
Grant was selected 10th place by the Chicago Bulls in the 1987 NBA Draft . He was initially a substitute for Power Forward Charles Oakley and came to about 22 minutes per game. After Oakley was transferred the next year, Grant became a regular and was consistently good for 12 points and 8 rebounds per game. He won the NBA championship four times and was recognized as a " General Grant " for his hard work in defense . Overall, Grant was elected to the all-defensive team of the best defensive players four times , and was invited to the NBA All-Star Game in 1994 .
1994 Grant was transferred to the Orlando Magic to superstar Shaquille O'Neal . As a power forward at O'Neal's side, he reached the NBA final in 1995, but could not prevent the 4-0 debacle against the Houston Rockets . The Magic transferred Grant to the Seattle SuperSonics in 1999 , before he moved to the Los Angeles Lakers a year later and was again second to O'Neal. Grant won his fourth league title with LA before moving back to Orlando for two years.
In 2003, after an unsuccessful second year in Orlando, he returned to the Lakers and ended his career in 2004 at the age of 39.
Grant was known for his large wraparound plexiglass glasses throughout his career.
Private life
Horace Grant is the twin brother of Harvey Grant , who also played in the NBA.
