Latavious Williams (born March 29, 1989 in Starkville , Mississippi ) is an American basketball player . Williams was the first player to be selected after school via the NBA Development League (D-League) in the entry draft of the highest-endowed professional league NBA . However, he did not play a game here, but continued his professional career in Europe. In the basketball Bundesliga 2012/13 Williams also played briefly for the then German champions Brose Baskets. After four seasons in the Spanish ACB league , Williams has been playing for UNICS Kazan in the VTB United League since autumn 2015 .

Career

At the end of his school days Williams was considered a particularly talented basketball player, but did not meet the academic requirements for a normal career in the NCAA college league by far . Therefore Williams attended a so-called "Prep School" in Texas for another year . After that year, however, Williams failed in 2009 at the entrance tests at US universities. Instead of going to Europe or Asia as a professional for at least a year, he decided to stay in his home country and play in the D-League, as he did not meet the requirements for entry into the Entry Draft right after finishing school the NBA met. In the D-League, Williams played for the Tulsa 66ers and was the first player to play straight out of high school in this development league, which consists only of farm teams . At the end of the season, the 66ers reached the final series for the championship of this league with only the eighth best record in the main round, but they lost against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers . Williams was then selected in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat, who swapped their rights to Williams to the Oklahoma City Thunder . This made Williams the second player after Mike Taylor two years earlier to be selected as a D-League player in an NBA draft . In the following season, however, Williams first had to continue playing with the Tulsa 66ers in the D-League. Williams missed the play-offs this season due to injury when the 66ers were eliminated as the fourth-best team of the regular season in the semi-final series against eventual titleholder Iowa Energy .

After Williams could not recommend himself for the NBA in the summer of 2011, he finally went abroad and played in Europe for Club Joventut from Badalona in the Spanish ACB league . However, the club missed in eleventh place in the main round by two wins again to make it into the play-offs for the Spanish championship. At the end of the season, Williams received the award as "Jugador más espectacular" ( German  most spectacular player ) of the league. In the summer of 2012 Williams played in the “Liga Nacional de Baloncesto” of the Dominican Republic for the metros from Santiago de los Caballeros and for the Thunder in the NBA Summer League . In October 2012 Williams finally got a fixed-term contract with the reigning German champions Brose Baskets from Bamberg in the basketball Bundesliga . For the team, Williams completed only appearances in the highest-ranking European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2012/13 . After just under two months, however, this contract expired and was not extended, so Williams returned to Spain. Here he played for Cajasol from Seville to the end of the season, who achieved safe relegation from fourth from bottom of the table. The following season, Williams was injured after having previously made ten missions. At the beginning of 2014, it was agreed to terminate the contract. Williams made his comeback again in the summer of 2014 at the Metros de Santiago in the Dominican Republic.
