economy
Anis del Mono has been produced here since (1868 or) 1870 . It is one of the most famous aniseed schnapps in Spain and is exported to numerous countries. The textile industry has been based here for a long time. Badalona keeps this tradition alive. There are still many companies in the textile industry here. As in other cities, there has been a transition from industrial to service companies in terms of corporate structure. The largest trade and service center is Montigala with many shops and companies (Decathlon, IKEA, Carrefour etc.). In addition, tourism plays an important role (leisure harbor, beaches).
history
As early as 5000 BC there was probably a Neolithic settlement with cattle farming here. The finds also include clay vessels from the Iron Age (800 BC - 650 BC). As a Baetulo , the city was founded in the first half of the 1st century BC, extended to about 10 hectares, was located on a small hill and was surrounded by walls in Roman times. There were thermal baths, houses and many shops here. The settlement was near the sea and in a place that also allowed agriculture. Pliny the Elder referred to it in the 1st century AD as oppidum civium Romanorum . The culture of the resident Iberians merged with that of Rome. At the end of the 1st century and also in the two following centuries, the settlement was less characterized by the luxurious villas, a Roman city emerged. In the heyday between 40 BC Viticulture and wine trade were the most important branches of the economy. The wine was shipped from Laietana , as the region was called, with amphorae also made there. It reached as far as France, Great Britain and Germany.
Culture and tradition
City festivals in honor of the patron saint are celebrated on Assumption in the week of August 15th and on Sant Anastasi (May 11th). At "Sant Anastasi" a demon is traditionally erected and burned on the beach.
