Enric Palomar

Enric Palomar (* 1964 in Badalona ) is a Spanish composer.

He graduated from the Barcelona School of Music (Conservatorio Superior de Música de Barcelona) and deepened his knowledge with Benet Casablancas and Joan Albert Amargós.

His concert Interludio alegórico, Hommage à Debussy for flute, viola and harp was awarded the Accessitpreis at the Xth composition competition of the Catalan government. Palomar writes numerous chamber music works for various musical ensembles. Particularly noteworthy are Ruleta , opera at the end of the century, based on a libretto by Anna Maria Moix and Rafael Sender, premiered in 1998 in the Mercat de les Flors Barcelona; and Juana , an opera about the life of Joan I of Castile , based on a libretto by Rebecca Simpson . This work was premiered in 2005 by the Halle Opera and then played at the Teatre Romea Barcelona and at the Staatstheater Darmstadt .

The Gran Teatre del Liceu commissioned Palomar to compose the opera La cabeza del Bautista , based on the original text of the same name by Ramón Maria del Valle-Inclán, with which he made his debut on April 20, 2009 at the Barcelona Opera House.

In April 2011 his concerto for piano and orchestra was premiered by the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra (OCB). In July of the same year, as part of the Festival Internacional de Granada, the world premiere of his ninety-minute ballet Negro-Goya took place in the gardens of the Alhambra . Performers were the Ballet Nacional de España , with choreography and direction by José Antonio, with the participation of the Orquesta de la Ciudad de Granada, direction Josep Caballé-Domènech. Furthermore, Palomar composes, arranges and conducts jazz and flamenco music. His gypsy suite Lorca al piano for four pianists, percussion, two opera and two flamenco singers and dance, as well as the setting of the Poemas del exilio by Rafael Alberti, with the cantaor Miguel Poveda, deserve special mention .

His symphonic poem with texts by the Argentine poet Juan Gelman premiered in May 2013.

Palomar is Artistic Director of the Taller de Músics Barcelona School of Music.
