Santa Coloma de Gramenet ( Catalan. [ ˌSantə kuˌɫomə ðə ɣɾəməˈnɛt ]) or Santa Coloma de Gramanet ( Spanish. [ ˌSanta koˌloma ðe ɣɾamaˈnet ]) is a city in the greater Barcelona area in Spain and belongs to the metropolitan area Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona . The city has 119,215 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) and an area of 6.57 km².
location
Santa Coloma de Gramanet is located north of Barcelona (from which it is separated by the Besòs River ) and borders the towns of Badalona , Sant Adrià de Besòs and Montcada i Reixac . The highest point is the 303 m high Puig Castellar, which was inhabited as early as the Iberian era.

Santa Coloma grew from 2,728 inhabitants in 1920 to 12,930 in 1930. Until then, the city expanded across the Besos River. After the civil war, the Cases Barates settlements there fell to Barcelona in 1945.

Demographics
Until the beginning of the 20th century, Santa Coloma had only a few thousand inhabitants. With the World Exhibition of Barcelona in 1929, many residents of the area around Montjic were relocated here. From then on the population grew steadily. In 1970, the hundred thousand mark was reached and Santa Coloma was officially recognized as a city. Today the city is the ninth largest in Catalonia. Of those who moved, 8.5% come from Andalusia, most of them from Córdoba and Jaeén. Most of the foreigners are Chinese, there are also many North Africans and Pakistanis.
