The L1 is a metro line on the Barcelona Metro . The line has 30 stations, all of which except Mercat Nou are in the tunnel. The route length is 20.2 kilometers. The line runs from Bellvitge, a district of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat , to the northeast suburb of Santa Coloma de Gramenet . Because of its color in the network of lines, it is also known as "Línia vermella" ("Red Line").

The university station

Every year around 101.7 million passengers (as of 2016) use the air-conditioned carriages of the L1, which makes it the most frequented line in the metro network. A journey from end point to end point takes about 35 minutes. The operator is Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB).

history

The first section of the line was opened in 1926 between the Bordeta and Catalunya stations in preparation for the 1929 World's Fair . The route was lengthened several times at both ends, the last time in 1992.
