Raúl Tamudo Montero (born October 19, 1977 in Santa Coloma de Gramanet ) is a Spanish football player .
Club career
Tamudo began his career in 1996 at the age of 18 with the Spanish first division club RCD Espanyol Barcelona . In his first season in the first division of Spain he could not prevail and was awarded to Deportivo Alavés in the following season . After a season without goals, he returned to Barcelona for half a year before being loaned to UE Lleida . Since 1999 he played again for Espanyol.
Tamudo has already scored 137 times in 373 games for his various clubs. This makes him one of the best goalscorers in the history of the Spanish league and, with 129 goals in 340 games, the best at Espanyol. He has become an icon among Espanyol fans because of his loyalty to the club and his large number of goals. He was considered the crowd's favorite, even though he was repeatedly on the sidelines. In 2004, Espanyol first considered whether to sell Tamudo to Celtic Glasgow because of its market value . Like almost every Spanish first division club, Espanyol is in debt and could use the transfer fee of five million euros offered by the Scots . But after fan protests it was decided not to hand it over. In the 2006/07 season he contributed with his two goals to 2-2 (the second goal was only scored in the last few minutes) against city rivals FC Barcelona in their stadium that Real Madrid became Spanish football champions for the thirtieth time. This game in particular has spread its cult status across the country.
In the 2006/07 UEFA Cup , Tamudo reached the final with Espanyol. There, however, they lost to last year's winner FC Sevilla on penalties.
Tamudo was an undisputed regular player at Espanyol up to and including the 2008/09 season and became the best goalscorer in the club's history. Under coach Mauricio Pochettino , however, he lost his regular place for the first time in the 2009/10 season and played only six league games.
After more than 13 years with the Periquitos , Tamudo moved to Real Sociedad San Sebastián for the 2010/11 season , where he signed a one-year contract.
National team
In the national team he was long overshadowed by Fernando Morientes and Raúl and played 13 international matches from 2000 to 2007, in which he scored five goals.
At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney , he won the silver medal with the Spanish national team.
