Chris Douglas-Roberts (born January 8, 1987 in Detroit , Michigan ), also known as CDR , is a retired American basketball player .

Career

High school and college

During his high school years, Douglas-Roberts initially played for Cass Technical High School in Detroit , Michigan. In 2003 and 2004 he contributed an average of a remarkable 28 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists per game. Following the 2004 season, he moved to Northwestern High School, where his stats dropped to 13.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Douglas-Roberts was active during his college years (2005-2008) for the Memphis Tigers, the men's basketball team at Memphis State University . In 2008, in his junior year, he and his team reached second place in the nationally held NCAA Division I Basketball Championship , with a points average of 23.3 points per game.

NBA

In 2008, he participated in the annual NBA draft and was selected as pick number 40 in the second round by the New Jersey Nets , for which he played until 2010. Before the 2010/11 season , he was transferred to the Milwaukee Bucks for a second-round pick for the 2012 NBA Draft , for which he played one season.

Italy

During the NBA lockout in 2011 played Douglas-Roberts for the club Virtus Bologna in the Italian Serie A . There he brought it as a starter to 12.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.

Return to the NBA / D-League

For the 2012/13 NBA season he was signed by the Los Angeles Lakers , but released on October 22, 2012.

On October 25th, he was signed by the Dallas Mavericks . But on October 30th, his contract was canceled by the team.

After Douglas-Roberts could not find a club in the NBA, he moved to the NBA Development League (D-League) and received a contract with the Texas Legends , the farm team of the Dallas Mavericks .

In 2013, Douglas-Roberts played with the Charlotte Bobcats . After the 2013/14 season he was given to the Los Angeles Clippers . He was transferred to the Boston Celtics on January 16, 2015, but released from his contract three days later.

In February 2016 Douglas-Roberts was signed again by the Texas Legends from the NBA D-League.

Personal

In preparation for the 2010/11 season , Douglas-Roberts suffered a tear in the retina of his right eye that had to be operated on. After successful surgery, he returned to the Milwaukee Bucks that season and has been wearing protective goggles as a distinctive feature during the games ever since.

Also striking is a large tattoo on his right upper arm, which shows Psalm 37, verses 1-3 and is part of his ritual for free throws, where he touches it three times before each attempt.

In November 2009 Douglas-Roberts fell ill with swine flu , from which he recovered within a few days and was available again as a player for his team at the time, the New Jersey Nets .
