JJ Hickson (born September 4, 1988 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is an American basketball player . He is power forward with the Fujian Sturgeons in the CBA .

college

Hickson played college basketball for the Wolfpacks at North Carolina State University . In his first game as a freshman , he scored 31 points. He later posted a career best with 33 points against Western Carolina. In his best season, he reached 14.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. He was selected for the ACC's all-freshman team.

NBA

Cleveland Cavaliers

On June 26, 2008, Hickson was drafted in the NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 19th place. In his first season, Hickson came into play exclusively from the bench and scored an average of 4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 11.4 minutes per game. The following season he moved up to the starting line-up and was able to improve a lot: 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds in 20.9 minutes per game. This season he also got his first opportunity to prove himself in the playoffs. However, due to his limited experience in the NBA, he was only put on the field for just over 7 minutes per game.

Prior to the 2010-11 NBA season , the leader and face of the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron James , left the team and signed with the Miami Heat . The entire game system and roles in the Cavaliers team had to be changed. Hickson was able to achieve his career best of 31 points and his career best of 20 rebounds twice this season. After 52 games, Hickson was on the field for an average of 26 minutes per game and contributed 12.3 points and 7.4 rebounds.

Sacramento Kings

On July 1, 2011, Hickson was traded by the Cavaliers to the Sacramento Kings . In return, the Cavaliers received Omri Casspi and a pick in the 2012 draft. In March 2012, the Kings released Hickson from his contract. He then signed a contract with the Portland Trail Blazers .

Portland Trail Blazers

In the Blazers, Hickson played 19 games in spring 2012 and was able to contribute an average of 15.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Because of these good performances, Portland extended his contract for another year for four million dollars that summer.

Denver nuggets

After his contract with the Portland Blazers expired, Hickson received various offers from across the league. He eventually joined the Denver Nuggets . There he received a contract until 2016. On January 15, 2014, he scored a career high of 24 rebounds against the Golden State Warriors . Hickson was fired from the Nuggets in February 2016.

Washington Wizards

A short time later, Hickson was signed by the Washington Wizards .

Move to China

In August 2016, Hickson signed a contract with Fujian Sturgeons in China.
