Wajid (alternative spelling Waajid , Uegit ) is a place in the Bakool region in southwest Somalia and the capital of the Wajid District .

The district's population was estimated at around 37,000 in 2004. The climate of the area is arid to semi-arid. The most important livelihoods are (nomadic) cattle breeding and the cultivation of sorghum in particular .

In July 2006, Ethiopian troops marched into Wajid as part of the civil war in Somalia . In early August 2008, fighting broke out between al-Shabaab and local armed groups. Al-Shabaab took control. In a village near Wajid, al-Shabaab had a woman stoned to death for adultery in 2009 and her lover was flogged.

The largest base of the World Food Program in Somalia is located in Wajid .
