The South Tyrol Laugen summit library is a project that combines the function of a library with bookcrossing elements and is also located in an alpine setting.

The project

The project started on June 30, 2007. It is supported by the St. Pankraz AVS section , the Ultental Tourist Office , the South Tyrol Library Association and the public libraries of Lana and Ulten . The coordinator is the former director of the Bolzano University Library , Franz Berger. The idea for this project comes from the summit library opened in 2006 in the Wilder Kaiser in North Tyrol, Austria .

functionality

Books recommended by book sponsors and sponsored by bookstores are packaged weatherproof and deposited on the summit of the Großer Laugen ( 2434  m ) in the Nonsberg group . Mountaineers who discover a book can take it with them, read it and deposit it on another summit. At the same time, the action should be entered on the summit library website; Personal thoughts on the book can also be expressed there. In this way, the books wander from peak to peak and hikers interested in literature find and spread interesting reading in unusual places.

At the beginning of the project there were 30 books, there are now over 60 books in circulation. In addition to numerous private individuals, prominent figures such as the politician Luis Durnwalder , the writer Sabine Gruber and the extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner act as book sponsors .
