Patrick Aloysius Ewing Jr. (born May 20, 1984 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is a retired American - Jamaican basketball player . His father is Patrick Ewing , former center of the New York Knicks , two-time Olympic champion and member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame .

Career

college

Ewing Jr. enrolled in May 2003 to study at Indiana University , whose basketball team Hoosiers are among the most successful teams in the most important US college league NCAA .

In 2005 he moved to his father's alma mater, Georgetown University in Washington, DC According to NCAA rules, he had to suspend the entire 2005/06 season because of the change of university, in which he was not allowed to play championship games for the Hoyas university team .

Ewing Jr. then wore the number 33 jersey for the Hoyas, which his father had also worn for this university team. The Alonzo Mourning Hall of Fame Center had previously been the last player to play with the Hoyas with this number. Curiously, Ewing Jr. was trained with the Hoyas by John Thompson III, the son of the coach, who with Ewing's father won the only NCAA Division I basketball championship in 1984 for the Hoyas.

In 2007 they reached the Final Four tournament of this nationwide final, but where they lost in the semifinals to the Buckeyes of Ohio State University . In contrast, one year later they surprisingly eliminated in the second round and missed the semi-finals; instead, Ewing Jr. was allowed to participate in at least the NCAA Slam Dunk Contest in his final college season in 2008 on the sidelines of the Final Four tournament in San Antonio .

Professional career

After Ewing Jr. was selected by the Sacramento Kings in the 2008 NBA Draft , he finally came to the New York Knicks via a player swap with the Houston Rockets , for which his father had played almost his entire career. Despite a good performance in the final preparatory game, where he showed strong performance at least in the last quarter, Ewing Jr. was one of the last players to be removed from the final season squad before the start of the season.

In mid-December 2008, Ewing Jr. therefore signed a contract with the Reno Bighorns in the NBA Development League (D-League) and played for this farm team for the next three seasons.

At the end of March 2011, Ewing Jr. finally got his first 10-day contract from an NBA club . The New Orleans Hornets brought Ewing Jr. into the highest endowed professional league and extended his contract until the end of the season. For the following season, however, Ewing Jr. had to return to the D-League and played for the Skyforce from Sioux Falls .

After Ewing's prospects for a longer-term NBA contract had sunk to a minimum, he moved to Germany for the 2012/13 BBL season and received a contract with Telekom Baskets from Bonn in the basketball Bundesliga . In December 2012, the contract between Telekom Baskets and Ewing was terminated early after Ewing was unable to meet the expectations placed on it. In 12 games Ewing averaged 11.5 points and brought 6.1 rebounds per game for the Baskets from Bonn.

In January 2013 Ewing signed a contract with Blancos de Rueda from Valladolid in the Spanish ACB league . The contract ran until the end of the season and was terminated prematurely in mid-March 2013. For Valladolid, Ewing Jr. came in 9 games to 4.3 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.

Ewing spent the summer of 2013 in the USA and played in the NBA Summer League for the Charlotte Bobcats team .

For the 2013/14 season he signed a contract in the Greek Basket League with the successor club of AS Trikala 2000 . In the 2014/2015 season, Ewing moved to AENK Dimoulas within the Greek league . His last position as a professional basketball player was Al Rayyan SC from the Qatari Basketball League (2015).

National team

Ewing Jr. won bronze with the Jamaican national basketball team at the 2012 Central American Centrobasket . He then played a year later at the premiere of the Jamaican team in the continental finals American Championship 2013 , in which the previous runner-up Brazil were defeated in the preliminary round and reached the intermediate round. There they still managed to win against defending champion and fourth place in the Olympics Argentina .
