Darren Michael Collison (born August 23, 1987 in Rancho Cucamonga , California ) is a retired American basketball player who was last active for the Indiana Pacers in the North American professional league NBA .
career
Collison was selected in the 2009 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Hornets in 21st place and already received a lot of playing time in his debut season after star player Chris Paul was sidelined for a long time due to injury. For his accomplishments, Collison was elected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team .
This was followed by a move to the Indiana Pacers , where he was able to establish himself as a regular player. In the summer of 2012, after two years with the Pacers, Collison was transferred to the Dallas Mavericks together with Dahntay Jones in exchange for Ian Mahinmi .
After his contract in Dallas expired, Collison did not receive a new offer from the Mavericks and then signed a contract with the Los Angeles Clippers until 2015 . In the off-season of the NBA, Collison did not take the option to stay another year in Los Angeles and thus became a free agent .
The Sacramento Kings made Collison a three-year, $ 16 million contract offer. He accepted this offer in July 2014. At the Kings Collison was starter and scored 16.1 points and 5.6 assists per game in 45 games . The Kings signed Rajon Rondo in the summer of 2015 , so that Collison came back from the bank, but was able to achieve a good 14 points on average.
After his contract expired, Collison rejoined the Pacers and signed a contract with the Indiana team until 2019 that earned him $ 20 million.
After the end of the 2018/19 NBA season , Collison resigned from the basketball business in order to devote more time to his family and religion. Collison is a member of the Jehovah's Witness community .
