Rancho Cucamonga is a city in San Bernardino County in the US state of California . The population is around 176,500, with the urban area covering an area of 103 square kilometers. Rancho Cucamonga was created in 1977 through the merger of the villages of Alta Loma , Cucamonga and Etiwanda .
geography
The city is located in the southwest of San Bernardino County in California . It is bordered by Fontana to the east, Ontario to the south, Upland to the west and San Antonio Heights to the northwest . To the north are the San Gabriel Mountains . Rancho Cucamonga is 39 miles east of Los Angeles .
Rancho Cucamonga has 165,269 inhabitants (as of the 2010 census). The city extends over an area of approximately 103.3 km², of which the land area makes up the largest part; the population density is thus 1601.3 inhabitants per km². The city center is at an altitude of 368 meters. Rancho Cucamonga is part of the Inland Empire metropolitan area .
In Rancho Cucamonga, the Mojave Trail , the Old Spanish Trail , Route 66 (now designated as Foothill Boulevard ) and El Camino Real meet several important historical connecting routes.
A forest fire in the San Bernardino National Forest , which is in close proximity to the city, destroyed around 600 hectares of land in late April 2014.
Demographics
According to the 2010 census , Rancho Cucamonga had 165,269 people in approximately 54,300 households. The city had experienced massive immigration within ten years. Since 2000, the population had risen from 127,000 to over 165,000. A majority of the population are white, with Hispanic immigrants, so-called Latinos , making up more than a third of the population. African Americans are represented slightly above the California average with a population of ten percent. Americans of Asian descent make up a similarly high proportion. The census also showed that for every 100 women there were 97.6 men.

Rancho Cucamonga is part of the 23rd district in the California Senate represented by Republican Mike Morrell . In the California State Assembly , most of the place is assigned to the 40th district, which is currently vacant. A smaller area belongs to the 41st Assembly District , which the Democrat Chris Holden represents. At the federal level, Rancho Cucamonga is a member of California's 31st Congressional District , which has a Cook Partisan Voting Index of D + 5 and is represented by Republican MP Gary Miller .

The city is an important industrial location in southeastern California. The only steel producer in California, Tamco Steel , is located in Rancho Cucamonga .

Rancho Cucamonga is divided into five school districts: Alta Loma School District, Central School District, Cucamonga School District, Etiwanda School District, and Chaffey Joint Union High School District. The city is home to Chaffey College and several campuses from various schools, including the University of Redlands or the University of Phoenix . There are four high schools in the city : Alta Loma High School, Etiwanda High School, Los Osos High School and Rancho Cucamonga High School.

Local public transport
The Omnitrans bus system , which serves the entire city area, is of central importance . In addition, the city has a station on the San Bernardino Line of the Metrolink network, with which Los Angeles or San Bernardino can be reached quickly.
Motorway connection
Both Interstate 15 and Interstate 210 pass through the urban area of Rancho Cucamonga.
