Apple Valley is a city in San Bernardino County in the US state of California , with around 69,100 inhabitants (as of the 2010 census ). The urban area covers an area of 190.7 square kilometers.
The city is located in the southern part of the Mojave Desert , which means that the climate can be very warm, especially in the summer months. Often, due to this geographical location, over 40 degrees Celsius are measured in summer at noon. The city is relatively easy to get to thanks to several motorways and expressways.
Demographics
The population was 69,135 at the 2010 census. The majority of them, just over 60 percent, are white people of European descent. Hispanic immigrants ( Latinos ), however, are also well represented at almost 30 percent. Afro-Americans and immigrants of Asian origin are minorities , with the former being even more represented than Asians at almost 10 percent. There were around 23,600 households across the city at the time of the 2010 census. For every 100 women there were 96 men, while the median age was exactly 37 years.
In recent years and decades, the population has grown rapidly: while it was around 6,000 in 1970, it has increased tenfold in four decades. The 2000 census showed a population of 54,000, with the number of Latinos in particular increasing significantly since 2000. The proportion of African Americans also increased, while whites are represented significantly less in percentage terms.
