Adelanto is a city in the US state California with 31,765 inhabitants (as of 2010). The urban area covers an area of ​​138.7 square kilometers and is located in the Mojave Desert in western San Bernardino County .

The post office established in 1917 was named with the name “Adelanto”, which comes from Spanish and means “to get ahead”. The town was founded in 1915 by EH Richardson, the inventor of the electric iron . He bought the land from the patent proceeds and wanted to build one of the first planned cities in Southern California.

In the city, for its size and location, there is above average tourism .

The converter station of the HVDC  Intermountain is located near Adelanto .

The 2010 census registered 31,765 residents, with a majority of 58.3 percent (California: 37.6 percent) of Hispanic origin, so-called Latinos . Compared to the rest of the state of California or the United States, whites of European descent are poorly represented at 43.8 percent of the population. 20.5 percent of the population are Afro-American and 1.9 percent Asians represent a small minority, while the California average is only 6.2 percent Afro-American but 13.0 percent Asians.

The number of households is given as 7,101, which results in 4.11 inhabitants per household. The 2000 US census counted only 18,130 residents in 4,714 households. The city's population has almost doubled in 10 years. What is remarkable here is that the proportion of Latinos has increased by around 13 percent, while the proportion of the white population has decreased slightly.

The population for 2012 is estimated at 31,153, 1.9 percent less than 2010, which is very unusual for California. According to estimates, the number of residents rose again slightly in 2013 to 31,304. The rapid population growth in the city seems to have come to an end for the time being.

history

The city was founded in 1915 by EH Richardson. Richardsen invested money that he had bought by selling the patent for an iron. He wanted to create the first completely planned city in California and sell the land to veterans of World War I. Although he was unable to complete this vision, a fruit-growing settlement developed. The global economic crisis ended fruit growing in favor of poultry farming. In 1941, as part of the war effort of World War II, the Victorville Army Air Field was established nearby, which was renamed George Air Force Base in 1950 . In 1970 Adelanto was incorporated into a city and in November 1992 a Charter City.
