Twentynine Palms (sometimes also referred to as 29 Palms ) is a city in San Bernardino County in the south of the US state California , United States , with 25,000 inhabitants (as of 2010). The urban area has a size of 142.0 km².

Twentynine Palms is located in the Mojave Desert . The city's mean altitude of 607  m means that it is exactly at the transition between the two climatic desert zones, Low Desert and High Desert .

history

Twentynine Palms is named after the palm trees that Col. Henry Washington found during his geographic research in 1852.

Joshua Tree National Park

The city is on the northern edge of Joshua Tree National Park ; one of the three park entrances (North Entrance) is located here.

Twentynine Palms is also the location of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms near Interstate 10 and California State Route 62 .
