The University of California Press (also known as UC Press ) is one of the six largest university publishers in the United States . As part of the University of California , it is the only one associated with a state university and is located in the western United States.

The publisher was founded in 1893 and is headquartered in Berkeley , California . Today he publishes around 200 books a year and keeps around 4,000 books in print. About a quarter of the authors are associated with the university.

The Journals + Digital Publishing Division is responsible for the publication of around 50 scientific journals . The ornithological journal The Auk has been published by UC Press since 2008 . All magazines and around 2000 books are also available online.

The income comes mainly from the sale of books and magazines. Support from the university is rather low and has recently decreased continuously.
