Ukiah is the capital of Mendocino County in the US state of California , United States , with 16,000 inhabitants (as of 2010 ).

Ukiah is passed by the Russian River a few hundred meters east in a north-south direction . The geographical coordinates are: 39.09 ° North, 123.12 ° West. The urban area has a size of 19.2 km². The city is crossed from north to south by US Highway 101 .

climate

The summer in Ukiah is hot and dry. The average maximum temperature in July is 32.5 ° C. The extreme temperatures are 46 ° C (in June, July, August, September) and −11 ° C (January and December). history

The original name of the area was Yokayo , derived from the Pomo and means deep valley or southern valley . This was later converted to the spelling Ukiah by the Anglo-Americans . In 1856 the first settler came to the area. His name was Samuel Lowry. The official founding date of the place is 1876.
