Phoebe Bridger (* 17th August 1994 in Ukiah , California ) is an American indie rock - musician . She is both solo and member of the bands Boygenius (with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus ), and Better Oblivion Community Center (with Conor Oberst ).

Life

Phoebe Bridgers studied jazz singing at Los Angeles County High School for the Arts , but never made friends with the music genre. Instead, she performed with the punk band Sloppy Jane and began to work on her solo career.

Phoebe Bridgers was discovered by Ryan Adams , who released her debut 7 '' on his label PAX AM in 2014 as part of his 7-Inch Series Tuesday. Further music by the two of them, who had recorded together, did not appear after a relationship between her and the musician failed. In 2016 a tour as support for Julien Baker followed.

In 2017 she signed with the independent label Dead Oceans , where she released her debut album Stranger in the Alps on September 22 of the same year . With the song Motion Sickness , she processed her emotionally dependent relationship with Ryan Adams. It was only later, as part of the Me Too movement , that other musicians accused the singer of having emotionally exploited her.

After the album was released, she appeared on CBS This Morning, among others . Several songs on the album were used for various television series, such as Safe at Home and Ask Me / Steamroller for example on Switched at Birth , Georgia on Castle , Smoke Signals on Burden of Truth and Funeral on Lethal Weapon .

In 2018 she released the single Walking on a String for the film Between Two Farnen with Matt Berninger , in which she also starred. In the same year, she founded the Boygenius project with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, which released a self-titled EP in 2018. The Better Oblivion Community Center project with Conor Oberst followed in 2019.

Their second album, Punisher , followed in 2020 and was released on June 18, 2020. The album reached number 39 in the German album charts. Previously, she was a guest on three songs on the album Notes on a conditional form of The 1975 represented.
