The 1975 are a British indie rock - band from Manchester .

Band history

The were founded in 1975 in 2002 as a school band. The four members started out as a cover punk band and only developed their own style over time. It was ten years before they released their first EP called Facedown on the Dirty Hit label . With the song The City they first got attention on BBC Radio. They also went on a UK tour as the opening act for Little Comets . The EP Sex , released in the same year, found support again on the radio and on music blogs on the Internet and the title song gave them a notable success with a placement in the US modern rock charts.

The 1975 breakthrough came in early 2013 with the third EP Music for Cars and the single Chocolate . The song not only returned to the US rock charts, but also made it to number 19 in the official British charts and stayed in the top 75 for 21 weeks. After that, they had numerous appearances in England and the USA, including the renowned South by Southwest in Texas. Another UK chart hit followed in June with The City , and the accompanying EP with the title IV even made it into the US album charts. Furthermore, The City on the soundtrack for EA Sports titles FIFA 14 included.

The 1975 debut album with the band name was released in early September . Before that, a re-release of Sex in the album version also hit the charts. The 1975 was voted "Worst Band of the Year" by British magazine NME for their debut album ; Years later, the editorial staff asked for indulgence for this misjudgment.

In February 2016 her second studio album I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It was released . This made it to number 1 on the official British charts.

In 2020, the fourth album Notes on a Conditional Form was released , which consists of 22 songs and runs for 80 minutes. With its extra length, the album shows eclectic traits: from garage rock to country and punk authenticity to minimal music . The 1975 works against the arbitrariness of the respective styles and the arbitrary citation of sounds by making their songs aesthetically nuanced with high-quality technology and microphones.
