Ian Mahinmi (born November 5, 1986 in Rouen , France ) is a French basketball player . His father is from Benin , his mother from Jamaica . The 2.11 meter power forward currently plays for the Washington Wizards in the NBA .

Ian Mahinmi played from 2003 to 2007 in the French LNB for STB Le Havre and Élan Béarnais Pau-Orthez . In 2007 he won the French Cup with Pau-Orthez.

In 2005 he was selected in the NBA Draft in 28th position by the San Antonio Spurs , which took him on August 23, 2007 under contract.

On November 21, Mahinmi was sent to the Austin Toros by the Spurs in the NBA Development League . On January 28, 2008, he was briefly brought back to the NBA from San Antonio. On February 16, he took part in the D-League All-Star Game as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend and scored nine rebounds.

After the 2007/08 regular season , Mahinmi was elected to the All-NBA Development League First Team . Mahinmi then moved into the NBA D-League final with the Toros, but lost 2-1 to the Idaho Stampede after victories .

Also in the 2008/09 season Mahinmi was loaned to the Austin Toros at short notice from Spurs.

At the beginning of the 2010/11 season he signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks . With the Mavericks, he was able to win his first title in the NBA in the 2011 NBA Finals . Dallas beat the Miami Heat 4-2 in the final . In the following season he got more playing time due to the departure of Tyson Chandler and reached a new career record on December 30, 2011 with 19 points. The Mavericks extended the contract with Mahinmi early and traded it to the Indiana Pacers in the summer of 2012 .

After four years with the Pacers, Mahinmi joined the Washington Wizards .
