career

society
He won the Japanese student basketball championship three times with the Meisei School in Sendai . During the U17 World Cup in Dubai in summer 2014 (he scored 22.6 points per game over the course of the tournament), Hachimura caught the eye of the Gonzaga University's assistant coach . When he moved to Gonzaga University in the United States in 2016, Hachimura spoke little English and struggled to understand the coach's instructions in his freshman year. During the 2016/17 season he scored an average of 2.6 points per game in 28 appearances; in the 2017/18 season, Hachimura was on the field in 37 games for the team nicknamed "The Bulldogs" and averaged 11 , 6 points and 4.7 rebounds per encounter.
In the 2018/19 season he was named Player of the Year at the West Coast Conference and led Gonzaga with an average of 19.7 points per encounter. In April 2019, he announced his decision to participate in the NBA's draft process , for which he was placed in the top ten in several predictions. The Washington Wizards secured in ninth place the rights to Hachimura, who became the first Japanese to be drawn in an NBA draft in the first round of selection.
National team
In June 2018, Hachimura made his debut in Japan's men's national team and scored 17 points in the 88:80 victory over South Korea.
