The Japanese national basketball team ( Japanese バ ス ケ ッ ト ボ ー ル 男子 日本 代表 , basketball danshi nihon daihyō ) represents Japan at international basketball games for men. It is one of the strongest national teams in Asia and has been twice Asian champion.
history
The Japan national basketball team participated in the 1936 Olympic Games, which featured basketball for the first time. To date, ninth place is Japan's best finish at the Olympic Games. The Japanese national team had its strongest phase from the end of the 50s to the beginning of the 70s, when it was regularly qualified for the Olympic Games and World Championships. During this time, the Japanese also won the Asian Cup twice. After China was accepted into the FIBA, Japan could no longer win a championship, but until the end of the 90s it regularly occupied medal ranks at the continental championships. The last top placement came in 1997 when he won the silver medal.
successes
The greatest successes of Japan are the gold medal wins at the Asian basketball championships in 1965 in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and in 1971 at the home championship in Tokyo . There are also five silver and seven bronze medals at the Asian Games. Other notable successes were two second and six third places in the basketball competitions of the Asian Games.
