The 2011 Asian Basketball Championship (officially: FIBA Asia Championship 2011 ) was the 26th edition of this tournament and took place from September 15 to September 25, 2011 in the People's Republic of China . It was organized by FIBA Asia , the Asian basketball association. The winner received a starting place at the 2012 Olympics .

Attendees

A total of 16 teams took part in the 2011 Asian Cup, which qualified for the tournament in different ways.

All games were played in two different sports halls in Wuhan .

Preliminary round

In the preliminary round four teams played against each other in four groups. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. The three best in each group reached the group stage. The fourth place played for places 13-16.

Group stage

After the preliminary round, the first three teams in each group qualified for the group stage. The three best teams in groups A and B form group E, the best in groups C and D form the new group F. Each team competed once against each of the three teams from the other preliminary group. The points from the preliminary round matches against the teams from their own group were counted further.

Final round

mode

After the intermediate round, the first four teams of both groups E and F qualified for the final round. The quarter-finals were played crosswise against an opponent from the other intermediate round group. Then both the winners of the quarter-finals met in the semifinals, as well as the losers in the placement round for places five to eight. The winners of the semi-finals contested the final, the losers the game for third place. The winners of the placement games played for fifth place, the losers for seventh place. The fifth and sixth placed from groups E and F played crosswise in the knockout system for places 9 to 12.
