The FIBA Asia Championship 2001 (officially: Asian Basketball Championship in 2001 ) was the 21st edition of this tournament and found from July 20 to July 28, 2001 in Shanghai , People's Republic of China instead. It was organized by FIBA Asia , the Asian basketball association. The two best teams qualified for the 2002 World Basketball Championship .

Attendees

A total of 16 teams were qualified for the tournament. After the withdrawal of two teams and the disqualification of the Philippines, 14 teams took part in the 2001 Asian Cup.

Preliminary round
