The 1982 Asian Basketball Championship (officially: 1982 Asian Championship for Women ), the ninth women's Asian Basketball Championship , was held between April 28 and May 5, 1982 in Tokyo , Japan , which was the first to host the championship . The winner was the South Korean national basketball team , which was unbeaten for the seventh time, for the third time in a row, to win the women's Asian championship.
First of all, in a preliminary round, the participants for the later final round were determined. In the preliminary round, the teams were initially divided into groups of three teams each. There each team played against the other teams in the respective group exactly once, so that each team played two games. There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. The two teams with the highest points moved into the final round, while the other teams moved into a placement round. Both in the final as well as in the placement round, the result against the opponent from their own preliminary round group was added. As in the preliminary round, the game was played in the form of a group stage. The team with the most points in the final round became Asian women's basketball champions in 1982.
