The 1977 Asian Basketball Championship (officially: FIBA Asia Championship for Men 1977 ) was the 9th edition of this tournament and took place from November 28 to December 10, 1977 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . It was organized by FIBA Asia , the Asian basketball association. 14 teams took part in this tournament. The two best teams qualified for the 1978 World Basketball Championship .

Preliminary round
