The first Asian women's basketball championship in 1965 took place from April 20 to 29, 1965 in the South Korean capital, Seoul . On November 30, 1963, the location of the first women's Asian Cup was announced during the men's Asian Cup. A total of five teams took part in the first edition, which was held as a double round tournament, the winner South Korea and the runner-up Japan qualified for the 1967 World Cup .
