The women's basketball Asian Championship 1980 (officially: 1980 Asian Championship for Women ), the eighth Asian women's basketball championship , took place between September 13 and 21, 1980 in Hong Kong , which hosted the championship for the second time. The winner was the South Korean national basketball team , which won the women's Asian championship for the sixth time and for the second time in a row.
First of all, in a preliminary round, the participants for the later final round were determined. In the preliminary round, the teams were initially divided into groups of three (Group A and C) or four (Group B) teams. There each team played against the other teams in the respective group exactly once, so that each team played two (group A and C) or three (group B) games. There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. The two teams with the highest points moved into the final round, while the other teams moved into a placement round.
