The women's basketball Asian Championship 1980 (officially: 1980 Asian Championship for Women ), the eighth Asian women's basketball championship , took place between September 13 and 21, 1980 in Hong Kong , which hosted the championship for the second time. The winner was the South Korean national basketball team , which won the women's Asian championship for the sixth time and for the second time in a row.
First of all, in a preliminary round, the participants for the later final round were determined. In the preliminary round, the teams were initially divided into groups of three (Group A and C) or four (Group B) teams. There each team played against the other teams in the respective group exactly once, so that each team played two (group A and C) or three (group B) games. There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. The two teams with the highest points moved into the final round, while the other teams moved into a placement round. Both in the final as well as in the placement round, the result against the opponent from their own preliminary round group was added. As in the preliminary round, the game was played in the form of a group stage. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided . The team with the most points in the final round became women's basketball Asian champions in 1980.
