The 1995 Asian Basketball Championship (officially: FIBA Asia Championship 1995 ) was the 18th edition of this tournament and took place from June 17 to June 26, 1995 in Seoul , South Korea . It was organized by FIBA Asia , the Asian basketball association. The two best teams qualified for the 1996 Summer Olympics .

Attendees

A total of 19 teams took part in the tournament, including, for the first time, teams from the former Soviet Union with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The participants in alphabetical order:

Preliminary round

The preliminary round was held in three groups with five teams and one group with four teams. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. The two best of each group played in groups 1 and 2 for places 1–8. The third and fourth placed played in groups 3 and 4 for places 9-16. The fifth placed in groups A, C and D played the places 17-19 directly from one another.

After the preliminary round, the first two teams in groups 1 and 2 played for places 1 to 8, the third and fourth-placed teams in groups 3 and 4 for places 9 to 16. In the groups, a simple round was played by everyone played everyone.

The two best teams from groups 1 and 2 played in the knockout system for places 1 to 4. The third-placed teams from groups 1 and 2 played for place 5, the fourth-placed for place 7. The winners of groups 3 and 4 played for 9th place, the second place 11th place, the third place 13th place, the fourth place 15th place.
