The host and the winner of the FIBA Asia Stanković Cup were automatically qualified . The representatives from West, East, Southeast Asia and the Gulf region each got two places. South and Central Asia each got a starting place. The last four starting places were awarded based on the results of the Stanković Cup 2012. FIBA decided to hold the tournament with 15 teams. All teams in group B were qualified for the next round regardless of the outcome of the group games.
All games were played in two different sports halls in Manila .
