The 2003 Asian Basketball Championship (officially: FIBA Asia Championship 2003 ) was the 22nd edition of this tournament and took place from September 23 to October 1, 2003 in Harbin , People's Republic of China . It was organized by FIBA Asia , the Asian basketball association. The winner qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics .

Attendees

A total of 16 teams took part in the 2003 Asian Cup, which qualified for the tournament in different ways.

All games were played in two different sports halls in Harbin .

Preliminary round

In the preliminary round four teams played against each other in four groups. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. The two best in each group reached the group stage. The third placed played for places 9-12. The fourth place played for places 13-16.

The two best from groups E and F played in the knockout system for places 1 to 4. The third placed from groups E and F played for place 5, the fourth place for places 5 to 8.
