The 2003 Asian Basketball Championship (officially: FIBA Asia Championship 2003 ) was the 22nd edition of this tournament and took place from September 23 to October 1, 2003 in Harbin , People's Republic of China . It was organized by FIBA Asia , the Asian basketball association. The winner qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics .

A total of 16 teams took part in the 2003 Asian Cup, which qualified for the tournament in different ways.

•  Lebanon - as the winner of the 2001 Asian Basketball Championship
•  South Korea - as runner-up in the 2001 Asian Basketball Championship
•  Syria - third place in the 2001 Asian Basketball Championship
•  Qatar - fourth in the 2001 Asian Basketball Championship
•  Japan - finished fifth in the 2001 Asian Basketball Championship

1) '' 'UAE' '' and '' 'Saudi Arabia' '' withdrew. In return, Kazakhstan and Kuwait received wild cards for the tournament.   

All games were played in two different sports halls in Harbin .

Preliminary round

In the preliminary round four teams played against each other in four groups. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. The two best in each group reached the group stage. The third placed played for places 9-12. The fourth place played for places 13-16.
