The Kazakh national basketball team represents Kazakhstan in men's international basketball matches. The Kazakh Basketball Association only became a member of FIBA after the collapse of the Soviet Union . Kazakhstan has never qualified for the Olympics or a World Cup. The Kazakh national basketball team regularly takes part in major Asian basketball tournaments. Third place in the basketball competition of the Asian Games 2002 is so far Kazakhstan's best position in an international tournament. Other notable successes were a fourth place each at the 1998 Asian Games and the 2007 Asian Basketball Championship .
