The 2007 Asian Basketball Championship (officially: FIBA Asia Championship 2007 ) was the 24th edition of this tournament and took place from July 28th to August 5th, 2007 in Tokushima , Japan . It was organized by FIBA Asia , the Asian basketball association. The best team (excluding China, which automatically qualified to host the Olympic Games) received a starting place at the 2008 Olympic Games .

A total of 16 teams took part in the 2007 Asian Cup, which qualified for the tournament in different ways.

Saudi Arabia withdrew its team and was replaced by Kuwait . All games were played in two different sports halls in Tokushima . KuwaitKuwait 

Preliminary round

In the preliminary round four teams played against each other in four groups. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. The two best in each group reached the group stage. The third placed played for places 9-12. The fourth place played for places 13-16.

The two best from groups E and F played in the knockout system for places 1 to 4. The third and fourth placed from groups E and F played in the knockout system for places 5 to 8. The winners of groups G and H played for 9th place, the second placed for 11th place, the third placed for 13th place and the last of groups G and H for 15th place.
