The 1983 Asian Basketball Championship (officially: FIBA Asia Championship 1983 ) was the 12th edition of this tournament and took place from November 20-29, 1983 in Hong Kong . It was organized by FIBA Asia , the Asian basketball association. The winner qualified for the 1984 Summer Olympics .

Preliminary round

The preliminary round was held in three groups with four teams and one group with three teams. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point.
