The 1999 Asian Basketball Championship (officially: FIBA Asia Championship 1999 ) was the 20th edition of this tournament and took place from August 28th to September 5th in Fukuoka , Japan . It was organized by FIBA Asia , the Asian basketball association. The winner qualified for the 2000 Summer Olympics .

Attendees

A total of 16 teams qualified for the tournament. After withdrawing and filling, 15 teams took part in the 1999 Asian Cup.

1) Kazakhstan and North Korea withdrew. For this, Malaysia was nominated for the tournament.  

Preliminary round

The preliminary round was held in three groups with four teams and one group with three teams. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. The two best of each group played in groups E and F for places 1-8. The third and fourth placed played in groups G and H for places 9-15.
