The FIBA Asia Championship of Women 1986 (officially in 1986 Asian Championship for Women ), the eleventh FIBA Asia Championship of Women , took place between 1 and 8 June 1986 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia , instead, which organized for the third time the championship . The winner was the Chinese national basketball team , which won the Asian women's championship for the second time.
First of all, in a preliminary round, the participants for the later final round were determined. In the preliminary round, the teams were initially divided into two groups of five teams each. There each team played against the other teams in the respective group exactly once, so that four games were played per team. There were two points for each win and one point for a defeat. The three teams with the highest points in a group moved into the final round, while the other teams moved into a placement round. Both in the final as well as in the placement round, the result against the opponent from their own preliminary round group was added. As in the preliminary round, the game was played in the form of a group stage. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided . The team with the highest points in the final round became the women's Asian champions in 1986.
