The Japanese national basketball team for women is the selection of Japanese female basketball players that the Japan Basketball Association represents on an international level, for example in friendly matches against the teams of other national associations, but also in international competitions. The greatest success was winning the silver medal at the 1975 World Championships . In 1936 the national association joined the world association Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA). In November 2013, the team was the third best Asian team behind China and South Korea in 17th placeWorld ranking of women .

Japan took part in 24 of the 25 Asian championships held so far and won the title in 1970 and 2013. In addition, the team reached second place seven times, got bronze twelve times and was fourth three times. In the latter cases, South Korea and China came in first two places, and Taiwan came third.

Japan at the Asian Games

The women's national basketball team of Japan has so far participated in all Asian Games . The Japanese team won the title in 1974 and 1998, and in 1994 the Japanese took second place. In 1978, 1982, 1986, 2006 and 2010 the team was in third place, in 1990 and 2002 they just missed the medal ranks with fourth place.
