The Qatari national basketball team represents Qatar in men's international basketball matches. Participation in the 2006 World Cup is one of the greatest successes of the Qatari national team . As the third of the Asian Cup in 2005 , Qatar qualified for the World Cup, but failed there in the preliminary round. Third place in the 2005 Asian Cup was a repeat of the same result from the 2003 Asian Cup . Another regional success was second place in the basketball competition at the 2006 Asian Games .
