Ha Seung-jin (born August 4, 1985 in Seoul ) is a South Korean basketball player. He is 2.21 meters tall and played as a center in the NBA for the Portland Trail Blazers and the Milwaukee Bucks .
family
His father Dong-ki was a member of the Korean national basketball team, which finished second in the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok . His sister Ha Eun-joo is also a professional basketball player. The 2.05-meter-wide Center player was in 2006 actually in the WNBA with the Los Angeles Sparks play. However, she still had a contract to fulfill with the Japanese team Chanson Cosmetics and could not accept this offer.
Player career
Originally Ha was selected in the second round of the 2004 NBA draft by the Portland Trail Blazers in 46th place.
He previously played for Samil Commercial High School and attended Yonsei University . He was the driving force behind Samil's 22-game winning streak during 2003 . Among other things, the high school won the National Sports Festival tournament in Jeju-si in November 2003. He won the Korean college title with Yonsei University and made an average of 12.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocked throws in seven games.
He became the first Korean player in the NBA. He had his best game on April 20, 2005 against the Los Angeles Lakers . He scored 13 points and hit six of his seven throws from the field.
Before coming to the NBA during the 2004–05 season, he played for the Portland Reign in the American Basketball Association. However, he got hardly any working time with the Blazers and was even deported to the NBA Development League team Fort Worth Flyers in 2006 , where he did not play very much. The Blazers later brought Ha back after centers Theo Ratliff and Joel Przybilla were injured. He was even in the starting line-up of his team four times.
During his two seasons with the Blazers, he played 46 games, averaging 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds.
On July 31, 2006, Seung-jin was traded by the Trail Blazers in a four-player change (along with Steve Blake and Brian Skinner in exchange for Jamaal Magloire ) to the Milwaukee Bucks . After only one preseason game in the jersey of the Bucks, in which he scored 4 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists, he was released on October 28th by the team from Milwaukee .
On December 31, 2006, Ha received a contract with Anaheim Arsenal in the NBA Development League . In the 2006-07 season he scored in 26 games for the Californians 2.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.38 blocks per game.
Ha currently plays professional basketball in the South Korean KBL (Korean Basketball League) for the KCC Jeonju team , with whom he became KBL champions in 2009 and 2011.
National team
Ha Seung-jin played as a member of the South Korean junior national team at the 2003 Junior World Championships and averaged 11.0 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.9 blocked throws in 19.2 minutes per game. He also plays for the South Korean senior national basketball team and took part in the FIBA Asian Championship in 2007, where he was able to lead South Korea to the bronze medal. On average, he scored 17.3 points and 9.1 rebounds.
